Breakfast for today? Dim Sum!

Often, my friends who visiting Ipoh will ask me where is the best place for Dim Sum? And most of the time, I will answer, "Huh? What is the time now? The restaurant already closed in this late evening!"

In Ipoh, the best place for Dim Sum is the Foh San Restaurant.

It is located at No. 2, Jalan Dato Tahwil Azar (formerly Jalan Osborne), 30300 Ipoh. Don't know how to go there? Just ask any passerby. It is so famous, everyone knows it! It is very near to Lou Wong and Onn Kee Bean Sprout Chicken Restaurant.

Its great reputation may be caused of its history. It is originated by Tham Pak Yuen since 1972. It's much older than me and I am a loyal customer here since I was a kid.

But remember, go there before 1pm. Because in Ipoh, the food is for breakfast or late brunch. For me, I always go there in the early morning, 7am or 8am. Many local retirees will go there have a breakfast with Chinese tea after finishing their morning walk.

What is Dim Sum?

I think everybody knows it. In case you don't, let me tell you that it's a traditional Chinese cuisine with a selection of small dishes.

This "heart's delight" (translation from the Chinese words) is an art of food. Despite the innumerable assortments available, each of them is served with great delicacy. They are served in small amount either on small plate or bamboo steaming basket. This is because it is originated from serving small dishes from teahouse to travelers on the way to the Silk Road.

However, you can't find a menu. So, you just have to use your eyes, to search out which Dim Sum trolley pass by with your favorite choice, and then just order it. Erm... most of the time, the waitresses will ask from one table to another, to ask for orders.

Oh yea, talking about the waitresses, you will realize that all of them are senior citizens! This is one of the policies of Foh San Restaurant, the kindness of the boss. Don't you dare to think they work in slow pace, they are absolutely not!
