Having meals at my family’s favorite Chinese restaurant in Ipoh

Ipoh is famous of its Chinese food in Malaysia. When you have enough of the noodles and local tidbits, there is the time you would like to sit down in a nice restaurant, having few proper Chinese dishes, with soup perhaps. And I’m going to introduce the perfect choice of Chinese restaurant to you.

20th July is my daddy’s birthday. We decided to have a birthday celebration dinner at Chinese restaurant. The first and only restaurant that comes up in my mind is the MarPoh Restaurant. We go there for almost every celebration dinner.

All these years, my family and the restaurant’s boss have become friends. Mr. Wu Nam Gi, the boss, is a Korean who married to a Malaysian lady. He speaks fluent Bahasa Malaysia!

He came to Malaysia in 1982 as a highway engineer. But his passion on food makes him to quit and opened the Seoul Kwan White Sand Seafood Restaurant in Pulau Langkawi in 1988.

The Seafood Restaurant in Pulau Langkawi was very successful. However, he decided to close it and opened the MarPoh Restaurant in Ipoh instead in 1992. Thanks to that decision, if not, I wouldn’t have the chance to enjoy the nice food in Ipoh.

Since Mr. Wu is a Korean, MarPoh Restaurant serves Korean food too! He and his wife always serve us “KimChi” for free. You can also order “Bul Ko Ki” (Korean style BBQ), ginseng chicken etc.

You can enjoy your lunch there from 11a.m. till 3p.m. and dinner from 5p.m. till 10p.m., except Tuesday.
